Have you ever heard of Muay Thai or Thai boxing? It is almost a national sport and probably one of the most popular in Thailand. There are fights all over the country but the best place to see it is Bangkok — and there is even a place where you can attend it for free.

If you look for Thai boxing in a guide book or the internet, you will likely read about the boxing stadiums at Lumpini or Rajadamnern because these are the touristic places. This is also reflected in the price of the tickets from 400 to 2000 Baht for standing or seating respectively. There will be tours and guides bringing tourists there and it has no more a real authentic feeling.

The place where you can see the fights for free is basically a big TV studio of the broadcaster Channel 7 with a boxing ring, some chairs and a tribune. This TV channel broadcasts six fights every Sunday afternoon from 2:20pm until late afternoon. You should be at the location at least one hour before the first fight in order to get a seat otherwise you have to stand. Once you have arrived, you just have to find a good place in between the locals and enjoy the show.

Before and during the fight there will be traditional hypnotic music played live by musicians. Then the fighters perform the rituals Wai Khru and Ram Muay to honor their trainers, family and show their individual skills. Each fight consists of five rounds and is becoming more intense towards the end. Even if it looks more nasty than regular boxing, it is a real sport with real athletes and rules.

Now the most important question, where is this place? And how do I get there from my hotel in Sukhumvit? We suggest you take the BTS Skytrain to Mo Chit Station. The buildings of Channel 7 are already nearby then. Leave the station at Exit 3 and walk 2 minutes on Phahon Yothin road. Take the first street to your right after the parking lot and after more 3 to 4 minutes you will see the building of Channel 7 on your left. We wish you enjoy your Muay Thai experience!

Lohas Residences with their serviced apartments located in Sukhumvit Soi 2 is therefore located right in the centre of one of the most popular touristic areas of Bangkok. Within short distance you can find everything that tourists need to make their stay enjoyable.
