The experience of Bangkok's nightlife is hard to beat and one of the reasons why so many people come here. After sunset many parts of the city seem to wake up again and some to be even completely transformed you might not recognize them at daytime. One can enjoy superb cocktails with a great view in one of the numerous sky bars, enjoy pumping music in the nightclubs or stunning theatrical performances of any kind. Anyway, the nightlife in Bangkok is varied and unforgettable but because of the sheer size of the city our top picks are far from exhaustive. Luckily, the majority of nightlife spots are located in the city centre of Bangkok and not far from the hotels near Nana plaza .
Cocktails at a rooftop bar
Given the number of high-rise building in the central areas of Bangkok there are plenty of options to choose from as the most contain also a hotel or at least operate a bar at their rooftop. Why not sipping a cocktail while enjoying the sunset, the majestic Chao Phraya River or the magic lights of the city at night. Two top-notch bars are the Vertigo at Banyan Tree Hotel or the Skybar at Lebua State Tower. The latter has become famous after being used as location for the movie Hangover Part 2. Expect prices in the upper range but the drinks and the food are worth it. For a budget-friendly alternative we recommend Above Eleven at Fraser Suites or Red Sky at Centara Grand at Central World. Please note that most rooftop bars have a dress code of no sandals or sleeveless shirts for man.
Bangkok Ladyboy shows
This is nothing offensive or indecent instead you will see professional theatrical performances. The flamboyant costumes, creative sets and musical tributes to the female form will leave an impression that you can only see in Bangkok. The theme of the shows range from historical plays to Broadway musical re-enactments or cabaret-like performances. One recommended show is the Playhouse Ladyboy show at the Shanghai Mansion Hotel in Bangkok's Chinatown.
Nightclubs in Bangkok
Some of Asia's best nightclubs can be found in Bangkok. They regularly attract top DJs and live acts from all over the world. The scene is softly split between clubs more oriented to locals or tourists. Local clubs often have a band playing live music at the opening or even the whole night while tourist spot feature the usual DJ setup. Levels Club & Lounge or Insanity at Sukhumvit 11 are all-time favourites of Thais and foreigners as well. RCA with it's two main attractions, Route 66 and Onyx are still some kind of unknown to most tourists but highly recommended. Route 66 features three areas with charts music, EDM and a live band while Onyx is strictly dedicated to electronic music.
If you don’t want to miss a thing in Bangkok, stay at Lohas Residence hotels near Nana plaza; never a dull moment.
