There's certainly a lot of choices to witness the New Year countdown in the Thai capital. Charge your inner battery by spending a chilled day at your hotel in Sukhumvit and later on hit the streets. Celebrations range from relaxed activities such a dinner and watching the fireworks to party all night at several bars and clubs in the entertainment areas of the city. For families, you could opt out for night markets such as Asiatique, who offer plenty of dining choices as well as a beautiful firework with a huge Ferris wheel and the Chao Praya river in the background. For party goers the clubs in Khao San Road, RCA and Sukhumvit (Soi 11 and Thonglor are the best spots) bring in special guests and international acts such as bands and DJs to entertain the crowd until the morning hours.

Central World

Almost a classic to celebrate New Year since it hosts a countdown street party successfully for many years. Some even compare it to Bangkok's equivalent of Times Square in New York though expect a smaller scale of a festive activity. The multipurpose-area at the backside of the shopping mall building transforms into a street food and market area with plenty of snack stalls and live entertainment such as bands and DJs. Enjoy the fireworks at midnight and get back home easily because the nearby BTS Skytrain runs special schedules later than usual for New Year's Eve.

Asiatique

The recommended Bangkok riverside spot and one of the most popular places to ring in the New Year. Though it has risen some competition from near Iconsiam shopping mall, one can expect a memorable experience. One advantage of Asiatique is the sheer amount of restaurant therefore no need to make a reservation in advance and you most likely find a free table easily. There will be several activities such as live music and performances hosted by Thai celebrities and a magnificent firework at midnight.

RCA and Sukhumvit

RCA is a designated nightlife and party area all over the year but of course there will be some of the best end-of-year celebrations. Over half a dozen nightclubs and venues are waiting for a young crowd to party all night. Sukhumvit road consists of two main locations for nightlife, Soi 11 and Thonglor. While Soi 11 mostly attracts westerners, expats and tourists alike, Thai people tend to party at Thonglor. Regardless where you decided to spend the night, make sure you bring your original ID card to verify your age at the door and be aware that some clubs require booking of a table including a drink package for this special day.
